Event Summary

The event will discuss the best tax practices and will launch the book “A Reforma Tributária Necessária: Diagnóstico e Premissas”.

From June 4th to 6th, the 1st edition of the FIT (International Tax Forum) in São Paulo, an initiative of Fenafisco (National Federation of State and District Tax), Anfip (National Association of Tax Auditors of the Federal Revenue of Brazil) and Sinafresp ( Union of Income Tax Agents of the State of São Paulo).

Tax and economic experts from four continents will discuss best practices, show an overview of the Brazilian situation and compare international examples. Strong names, as Irish economist Marc Morgan, will present experiences and help to point out ways that can make our system fairer. Among the subjects to be discussed: the European tax system and the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), the experience of Latin America, evasion, tax havens and the environment.   For the Anfip’ president, Floriano Sá Neto, the Forum is important to confirm the thesis that a fairer tax system encourages the economy as a whole. “International experience shows us that we are going against what is practiced in more developed countries. In Brazil we have a regressive system with an excessive burden on consumption. With the right change in tax calibration, we can have significant results in economic growth”, he says. On the 1st day, FIT will also launch the book “A Reforma Tributária Necessária: Diagnóstico e Premissas”, written by more than 40 specialists. The publication provides a broad x-ray of how to collect taxes Brazil and is part of the Solidarity Tax Reform movement: less inequality, more Brazil, by Fenafisco and Anfip, with the support of the Federal Council of Economy (Cofecon), of the Inter – Union from the Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Brazil Foundation (FES), Institute of Socioeconomic Studies (Inesc), Fiscal Justice Institute (IJF) and Oxfam Brasil.

All the work done is based on examples from countries that the tax system is more equality and encourage the development. Therefore, we promote the International Tax Forum, an initiative that brings a wide debate and promotes the exchange of experience among renowned experts representing 11 countries with different economic realities”, says the president of Fenafisco, Charles Alcantara.
